Tonight's evening game saw us up against FC Aztec, our third game against each other this season. With Aztec looking certain to secure the league title, it would be a tough match considering our injuries and absences.
Generals started brightly taking the play to Aztec, with the defence looking a lot more comfortable than against Thrapston, the signs were promising. Josh, Jake and Adam were combining well down the left giving Aztec something to think about. As the half went on Aztec began to get into the game and started to put the Generals defence under pressure, but with Jordan and Aaron strong in the middle, chances were kept to a minimum. Aztec kept pressing and were rewarded just before half time, when a defensive slip up allowed them through to give Cory no chance 1-0.
Half time 1-0
The first 10 minutes of the restart gave Aztec the game, with 2 further goals, the long ball over the top catching the Generals defence out. After this the game was fairly even with teams creating chances but nothing clear cut. Some excellent build up play from Ryan and James combining well with Tom and Jim was good to see. With the game almost over Aztec were gifted a fourth goal which was a little harsh on Generals.
Final score 4-0
Overall Aztec showed why they are top of the league, but credit to Generals for making it a game, with the added injuries not making it any easier. The effort of the Generals' players is not in doubt, especially when you see Josh near to collapse, James struggling to breath and Jordan playing through a nasty leg injury, we need to play better as a team and use the ball better, then results will come. Player of the match went to Aaron who was superb throughout this game and couldn't have done any more for the team, well done.
