Our first home game of the season saw us up against Earls Barton in the 1st round of the Under 13 League Cup. Generals also chose the day to proudly show off their new home kit, sponsored by Roger Kendrick Joinery.
Generals started the first half brightly and were determined not to let Earls Barton settle into the game. Early efforts from Josh and Titus went close as Generals maintained a steady attacking role. Generals were playing some superb football down both sides of the pitch, with Jim and James linking well down the right, whilst Jake and Josh worked the left flank, the possession warranted goals, which were just not quite coming. This was in fairness mainly down to an excellent Earls Barton ( Tomashevsky-esque ) keeper, who proved difficult to beat all game. It was decided to make a change to help freshen up the attack, with Adam making the impact Generals deserved just before half time. Great work once again from Jim down the right hand side, saw him cross superbly for Adam to slot home from close range.
Half Time 1-0 to Generals.
Again the second half started well for Generals as they pressed for more goals, they made it 2-0 within a few minutes of the start. This time James controlled the ball on the edge of the box then played it through for Reece to take in his stride and place the ball neatly past the keeper. The build up play was breathtaking at times, with Ryan breaking up any opportunities in front of the defence, who had a quiet game this week, whilst Jake demonstrated how to win a ball and put forwards in front of goal with a range of sublime passes. On 52 minutes Josh was played in down the right wing and delivered an inch perfect cross to Adam at the far post. Adam was in the perfect position to simply tap home for his second, from close range. Adam yet again turned League Cup hat trick hero, just as last season, with 5 minutes to go. As Titus drew the defenders towards him inside the penalty box, he laid the ball off to Adam at the edge, and the goal of the game came from his sweetly timed shot into the corner of the net.
Final score 4-0 to Generals.
A fairly quiet day for the whole of the defence, but a deserved clean sheet, showing that they kept their discipline well, especially during the quiet spells, well done. Credit today went to the midfield and forwards for their superb passing football, creating many chances in the process, we just need to take some more of these! Man of the match was close this week, Adam with his hat trick, Reece played excellent up front and could have had a hat full, Jim ran himself into the ground down the wing, whilst Josh was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. But the best footballer on the pitch by far this week was Jake, an outstanding performance, well done.
