The game this week against Corby Warriors was a change from the fixture list, reversing it to a home match. The afternoon kick off also saw the best of the weather, avoiding the morning's heavy rain. The pitch had drained really well and was in perfect condition.
Generals kicked off with the wind behind them, immediately going on the attack, within 3 minutes they were in the lead. The ball falling to Aaron who hit a long shot from outside the box, over the keeper, into the far corner of the net, 1-0, brilliant start! Generals were then immediately caught out with Warriors equalising 1-1, again a very well taken long shot did the damage. Generals to their credit shrugged this off quickly, going back up the field to take the lead again. This time Ryan played the ball through the defence for Tom to latch onto and chip into the far corner 2-1. Three goals in 5 minutes set the theme for the game and more goals duly followed. On 20 minutes Ryan's shot beat the keeper but rebounded back off the post, but Titus was prowling for a simple tap in. It was now one way traffic. Generals won a throw in down the left wing, Jordan taking it quickly to Ryan who played it back for Jordan to cross over to Aaron, without a second thought Aaron smashed it into the top corner of the net for a 4-1 lead. With half time approaching, Josh won the ball down the right hand side and after beating the defender, shot from the edge of the box, again the post was hit and this time Ryan was on hand to tap in.
Half time 5-1.
The second half saw Generals playing against the wind, but with the introduction of Adam, Reece and Jim their passing football allowed them to create more chances, the first within a couple of minutes of the restart. Josh who had now switched wings, ran down the left side and then perfectly crossed for Reece to leap like a salmon and head into the top corner, 6-1. The seventh came with Ryan collecting the ball in midfield, then superbly passing the ball through to Adam to run on to, who then shot into the bottom corner. Adam was now seeing plenty of the ball, and this time played a low cross into the goal area, where Reece was able to hit home, 8-1. The next attack saw a solo effort from Aaron, this time running the ball out of defence and using the space created by Jim to move into the penalty area, he then hit his shot into the far corner to make it 9-1 (Aaron's HAT TRICK!!!). Now it was Jim's turn to provide another opening, his deep pin point cross from the right was met by Adam at the far post to finish from close range 10-1. Adam now sensed his own chance to match Aaron's achievements, taking on the defence single handedly, then using his trusty left foot to drive the ball into the far corner of the net, 11-1 (Adam's HAT TRICK!!!). To Warriors credit they never gave up and were rewarded for their effort scoring in the last few minutes to make the final score 11-2.
Even though it was one sided at times, Warriors still made Generals work hard for their win, reminding Generals not to be complacent in defence. The second half was more pleasing, as the passing football did the talking. Out of all the goals today the pick had to be Reece's header, fantastic. With two hat tricks today the Man of the Match could have gone to either of these players, or even Reece for his second half performance, which was excellent. But the decision went to Aaron for not only his hat trick, but his overall performance from start to finish, well done.
