After last week's heroics against Aztecs, we met again, but this time in the league. We also had holidays and injuries affecting team selection, it was always going to be a difficult act to follow.
Both teams started brightly, with Generals working hard as individuals but not clicking as a team. Aztec took the lead from a corner, disappointingly due to Generals not reacting to the second ball, although it was a deft lob over the keeper. Things then started to get much harder for Generals, with injuries and a player feeling unwell, forcing more changes with players out of their normal positions. This didn't stop Jim and Jake, who worked as hard as ever, but not having the passing options they would normally expect to be available.
Half time 0-1.
The second half proved to be even more difficult, with Aztecs playing good football and Generals trying to stay in the match. A further injury just added insult, we just had enough for eleven on the pitch. It was no surprise when Aztecs finally stretched their lead to go two up. Cory now seemed to be the busiest player on the pitch, if not saving shots he was fetching the ball from behind the goal, it was almost one way traffic. Another shot from Aztecs was saved well by Cory onto the bar, but the rebound bounced just over the line to give them their third.
Full time 0-3.
A day to forget and now a weeks rest, time to sort those illnesses and injuries out?
Well done to Ryan, playing centre back and marshaling a makeshift back four, it was down to the defending and goal keeping that we didn't leak any more goals, being completely overrun in midfield second half. There was no lack of effort from a number of the players this week, exemplified by Jim and Jake, with Aaron working hard at right back, but we didn't always put the effort into the right things and struggled to find options, the team performance just wasn't quite there. Man of the match, for a very strong performance, even though he was usually outnumbered, went to Jake, well done.
