With only 12 fit / available players Generals were in for a tough match against an improving Wellingborough Town side.
Generals had the wind at their backs for the first half and made it count within 6 minutes, with Toby penetrating down the right wing a corner was won. Toby's superb corner tested the Wellingborough keeper, who could only push it on to the cross bar. As the ball landed in the centre of the goalmouth, Jordan was on hand coolly finish, 1-0. Generals confidence was high and some neat passing movements followed, but on the counter attack Wellingborough were given a dubious penalty for hand ball, rather ball to hand? But justice prevailed when a well struck penalty was brilliantly saved by Cory (another one for his tally!!). Generals stepped up a gear with superb crosses from Toby, whilst Jake was taking on defenders down the left. It seemed it was only a matter of time before another goal, but it wasn't until 23 minutes that they were rewarded for their endeavour. James played a superb ball through the defence for Jake to run on to, but his cracking shot came back from the crossbar, showing great strength, against a very good and very big Wellingborough keeper, Jake kept going to head the rebound over the line, 2-0.
Half time 2-0
In the second half Generals struggled to keep the ball forward, so defending was needed as a team, Phil marshalling the backline really well with Aaron, Jordan and Adam all playing their part. With 10 minutes left on the clock Wellingborough got their reward, a 30 yard shot flying into the net giving Cory no chance, 2-1.
Final Score 2-1
A pleasing performance today with everyone giving their best effort. The whole defence played really well, Cory solid once again in goal, Kallum had his best game this season in front of the back four, Jake, Jim and Toby running their socks off, Josh and especially Reece delivering an excellent performance up front. Man of the match just pipping Cory was Jake, well done.
